Minnesota has an abundance of natural beauty, including nearly 12,000 lakes.  So it is no wonder that the Dakota Indians chose to call the land “mnisota” meaning “sky tinted waters.”
Today, Minnesota is still known for its breathtaking wilderness.  From the shores of Lake Superior, the world’s largest freshwater lake, to the headwaters of the mighty Mississippi River, Minnesota offers lakes, rivers, streams and forests.  Outdoor recreational opportunities abound with Voyageurs National Park, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, 76 state parks and recreation areas, 62 state forests and two national forests.  Grand Portage and Pipestone National Monuments preserve the rich American Indian and fur trapping heritage of the state.
Minnesota boasts three of the world’s premier wildlife centers; The International Wolf Center, The North American Bear Center and The National Eagle Center, each designed as research centers, animal observation and exhibit facilities, and participatory nature experiences.
Minnesota also will host the 2016 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National Golf Club. In addition, there are nearly 400 quality, affordable courses that can be found in every corner of the state.
The Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul are the international gateway to this paradise.  Scores of theaters, galleries and museums, two professional orchestras and a vibrant pop music scene, make this area a notable arts haven whose influence extends throughout the United States and the world.  Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Bob Dylan and Prince both hail from Minnesota!
Join the fun as the MLB Minnesota Twins, NFL Minnesota Vikings, NBA Minnesota Timberwolves, WNBA Minnesota Lynx, NHL Minnesota Wild, NLL Minnesota Swarm and the NASL Minnesota United FC soccer teams draw millions of fans and casual spectators during every season.  Minneapolis will host Super Bowl LII in 2018.
Visitors to the Twin Cities may attend a world-class concert, explore a rich nightlife, and shop at a variety of venues.  The arts and cultural scene is extraordinary with internationally renowned modern and classical museums.  Minneapolis-Saint Paul is arguably the premier arts center between the East and West Coasts. Several outstanding community theaters and arts groups throughout the state add to Minnesota’s reputation as a world-class arts destination.
Minnesota invented shopping as it is today with Southdale Center, the country’s first enclosed mall and Mall of America, the largest shopping and entertainment complex in the country.  Mall of America, located just 5 minutes from the Minneapolis/Saint Paul International Airport, recently broke ground on Phase II designed to double its size.  Twin Cities Premium Outlets located in Eagan, just  5 minutes from the Mall of America, opened in 2014 and joins Albertville Premium Outlets as outlet shopping destinations in the Minneapolis Saint Paul metro area. Shop anywhere in Minnesota for clothing and shoes and do so tax free!
